My Remedial & Sports Massage

Let’s leave behind whatever notions of sports massage you have, the emphasis here is remedial – the aim is to remedy whatever you bring to my treatment room.

Here are two frequently asked questions that I get asked:

Will it hurt?

I do not work with the mantra 'no pain, no gain', in fact, it's quite the opposite! Please don't be worried about the massage hurting, I actively encourage you to give me feedback throughout so I can use the best pressure for you. Some people may experience mild tenderness at sensitive areas but this should never be painful and we will work together to use techniques that best suit you.

Can I still have sports massage if I don't play a sport?

You do not have to play a sport or do lots of exercise for this treatment to apply to you! Techniques I will use were first developed with athletes in mind, however we all put our bodies through a lot, whatever our walk of life, so remedial massage is a term I prefer and is relevant to all.

Essentially, this treatment may be whatever you want it to be.

To give you an idea of what I treat, I will give you a list of some of the things my clients have presented with:

  • Reduced mobility in the neck

  • Painful/tight/stiff muscles

  • Mechanical back pain

  • High stress levels

  • Tennis elbow & Golfer's elbow

  • Shoulder ache

  • Tension headaches

  • Sinus congestion

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Pins and needles in the arm/hand

  • Sprained ankle

  • Muscle tear/strain

  • DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness)

  • Preparation for a big race/event

  • Limited joint mobility

  • Heavy legs

  • Runner’s knee

  • Muscle imbalance

After an in-depth consultation, I will usually perform a postural or standing assessment before the hands-on work begins. This gives me a chance to observe your posture whilst stood and find any points on the body that call out to me for attention.

Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions regarding postural assessment or remedial massage in general.
